Verrucas

What causes verrucas?
Verrucas are common viral infections that appear as small hard areas on the skin. The same colour as your skin, the most common type are rough and often wrinkled. If they're on the sole of the foot, they can be softer and flat, with small black spots inside. These can be painful because of the pressure put on them by the weight of your body. Infection occurs through contact, especially in popular locations such as swimming pools, communal showers, changing rooms and gyms, where the warm and moist environment helps the virus to develop.

How to prevent verrucas

You can help prevent verrucas by avoiding walking barefoot in damp, crowded places, and by wearing pool slippers or flipflops. Wearing socks that can absorb sweat can also help. If a verruca has already formed, they can be treated easily at home.
